CountThings alternative: free counting in your browser
Looking for a CountThings alternative that runs in a browser? CountThings is a capable paid app with no browser version; here is how the free options compare, with prices as of October 2026.
The short answer
- You want a free count in a browser, with no account, of pipes, rebar, logs, lumber, pills or coins: use the free Counting Master counter. It runs on any phone or computer, and the photo never leaves your device.
- You need a large template library, a Windows or Android app, video counting, or a vendor to build a custom template: CountThings is the more complete product, and you pay for it.
- You count the same items every day on an iPhone: the Counting Master app counts from the camera and learns your own items after 20 checked counts.

What CountThings offers, as of October 2026
- Apps for iOS, Android and Windows. Counting runs on the device, offline; the site says your data stays private.
- A template library. You pick a counting template for your object. If none fits, you can ask the company to create or refine one.
- A one-time 7-day free licence, which needs an account.
- Paid licences after the trial: $120 a month or $1,200 a year per device; $24 for one 24-hour licence ($80 for four, $150 for ten); or $80 for 100 counts, which expire a year after purchase.
- A free manual counting mode, per countfromphotos.com, where you tap items yourself. Automatic counting needs a paid licence.
- CountThings from Video, a separate product at $600 a month or $2,400 a year per device.
Is there a CountThings online version?
Not that we could find. As of October 2026, the CountThings site lists apps for iOS, Android and Windows, and countfromphotos.com promotes the mobile app. Neither offers a counter that runs in a web browser. If you searched for "CountThings online" or "count things online free", you were probably after exactly that: a page where you add a photo and get a count, without installing anything.
That is what the Counting Master web counter is. Pick a category, add a photo, check the few spots it flags, and you have your number. It is free, with no account and no daily limit, and counting happens in your browser, so the photo is never uploaded.

When CountThings is the better choice
- You need Windows or an Android app. The Counting Master app is iPhone only for now. The web counter works on Android in the browser, but it is not an installed app.
- Your object is in their template library, it is not one of our five categories, and counting it by example here does not work well.
- You count from video, or want the vendor to build and tune a template for your process.
When the free web counter is enough
- You count now and then, and a subscription per device makes no sense for a few counts a month.
- You are on someone else's computer, or an Android phone, and don't want to install anything or make an account.
- Your objects fit one of the five counters: pipes, rebar, logs, lumber, pills or coins, or they count well by example with Anything.
- The photo is sensitive, such as medication or stock you'd rather not send anywhere. The web counter never uploads it.
Each counter's page has the photo tips for its own objects, and its count accuracy as measured with this web counter, not borrowed from the app.
When the Counting Master iPhone app makes sense
CountThings makes custom templates on request. The Counting Master app takes a different route: it learns your items from counts you already do. Count an item by tapping one example, save it, and check the count each time. After 20 checked counts, your iPhone trains a counter for exactly that item, and from then on it counts by itself. Training runs on the phone; photos and corrections never leave it.
The app also counts straight from the camera, coaches the shot (level, blur, glare, a smudged lens), works with no signal and keeps a history of your counts.
Other free online counters
CountThings is not the only option. As of October 2026, from their own pages:
- Mr.Count gives 300 free units a day, where one item counted is one unit, then sells credits from $1.29 for 5,000 units.
- ZapCount allows 50 free counts a day on the web without an account, and needs an internet connection to count.
- Pixoate and Tallypic run free web counters with pages for many item types.
Before you add a photo to any web counter, check whether it is processed on a server or in your browser. On this site it is always in your browser.
Try it on a photo you already counted
The fairest test is your own photo. Take one you counted by hand, open the matching counter, and compare. Then check the orange rings and see how close you get after a few taps. If it works for your objects, you have a free CountThings alternative for those counts. If it doesn't, you have lost a minute and no money.

Counting every day? The iPhone app
The web counter stays free. For daily counts on site, the Counting Master app counts from the camera, learns your own items after 20 checked counts, and keeps a history on the phone. iPhone, iOS 17 or later. The first three counts are free; Pro is $4.99 a month or $29.99 a year with a 7-day free trial, and includes trained items counting on their own.
